Training overview

This course equips participants with the leadership theory, principles, practice, characteristics and behaviour needed to govern African integration successfully.  

Scope of training

This training topic includes African leadership philosophy, theories, principles, characteristics and practices of intergovernmental leadership, leadership opportunities and challenges in Africa. 

Training aim

Upon successful completion of the training program, participants will be able to:

  • Describe and explain the theoretical basis of African leadership, its evolution, rationale, principles, characteristics, and manifestation.
  • Identify and appreciate the differences between national and intergovernmental leadership styles and approaches.
  • Outline the leadership challenges affecting Africa’s integration agenda.
  • Acquire requisite knowledge of ethical leadership and skills to be effective pan-African leaders.

Target audience

African leaders and aspiring leaders in government, corporate sector, civil society and faith-based organisations. 

Training methodology

This training is learner-centred. The facilitators use adult learning principles and techniques to enable maximum learning and knowledge retention. 

Training Content

The content of the training will include: 

  • African approaches to leadership.
  • The African Union leadership framework.
  • AU’s decision-making and impact on pan-African leadership.
  • Transformational, adaptive and ethical leadership.
  • Leadership skills.

Training Location

Participants can opt to receive the training virtually or in person. 

Cost of Participation

The online pathway’s participation cost is $395 and $750 for the in-person pathway, excluding travel, accommodation and subsistence cost in South Africa.
