Training overview

This course equips participants with a working knowledge of the African Union Peace and Security Architecture (APSA), its evolution, its norms and structures, its programs and projects, and the opportunities for and challenges of engaging it.

Scope of training

This training topic includes African Union’s conflict prevention, management and resolution norms, structures and mechanisms and case studies.

Training aim

Upon successful completion of the training program, participants will be able to:

  • Describe and explain the evolution, rationale, norms, principles, characteristics, structure and functioning of the APSA framework.
  • Identify opportunities for engagement within APSA.
  • Acquire requisite skills for effective engagement with the APSA framework.

Target audience

  • Anyone interested to know about, working on or interested in working with any of the Pillars of APSA.
  • Government officials working in line ministries with roles and responsibilities for conflict prevention, management and resolution.
  • Corporate leaders interested in understanding how the APSA mandate affects the business environment in Africa.
  • Civil society organisations interested in or working on conflict prevention, management and resolution in Africa.

Training methodology

This training is learner centered. The facilitators use adult learning principles and techniques to enable maximum learning and knowledge retention.

  • The Pillars of APSA.
  • The Regional Economic Communities.
  • Peace support Operations.
  • Engagement strategies.

Training Location

Participants can opt to receive the training virtually or in person.

Cost of Participation

The online pathway’s participation cost is $ 395 and $750 for the in-person pathway, excluding travel, accommodation and subsistence cost in South Africa.
