Training overview

This course equips participants with a working knowledge of the African Union, its evolution, its norms and structures, its programs and projects, and opportunities for and challenges of engaging it. 

Scope of training

This training topic includes the founding treaties of the African Union and its organs, Constitutif and treaty-based, specialized institutions and technical agencies, AU agenda, leadership structures, decision-making processes, engagement opportunities and challenges. 

Training aim

Upon successful completion of the training program, participants will be able to:

  • Describe and explain the evolution, rationale, principles, characteristics, structure and functioning of the African Union.
  • Identify and use opportunities present within the AU system to advance their interests.
  • Acquire requisite skills for effective engagement with the African Union system.

  • Anyone interested to know about, working on, working or interested in with the African Union.
  • Government officials working in line ministries engaging with the African Union.
  • Corporate leaders interested in leveraging agenda 2063 to advance continental business interests.
  • Civil society organisations interested in using the AU’s platform to advance their mandates.

This training is learner centered. The facilitators use adult learning principles and techniques to enable maximum learning and knowledge retention.

Participants can opt to receive the training virtually or in person. 

Cost of Participation

The cost of participation for the online pathway is $395 and $750 for in person pathway excluding travel, accommodation and subsistence cost in South Africa.
